NA delegation visits Philippines

HA NOI — Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly’s Committee for External Affairs Nguyen Van Son and his entourage concluded a two-day working visit to the Philippines on Saturday.

While in the Philippines, the Vietnamese delegation was received by Deputy Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Maria Amelita Vilarosa and held working sessions with chairpersons of the Committees for Foreign Affairs, and Interparliamentary Relations and Diplomacy, and the Secretary General of the Philippines House of Representatives.

Son, who is also head of the Organising Board of the 31st ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly, conveyed NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong’s invitation to the Speaker of the Philippines’ House of Representatives to attend the 31st AIPA General Assembly in Viet Nam.

The two sides exchanged opinions on enhancing relations between the two legislative bodies, especially the exchange of legislative experiences.

Human resources link signed

OTTAWA — A memorandum of understanding on co-operation in labour, employment and human resource development between Viet Nam and the Canadian province of Saskatchewan was signed in Saskatoon, Canada.

Signatories to the MoU were Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada Nguyen Duc Hung and Saskatchewan Minister of Advanced Education, Employment and Labour Rob Norris, who was also responsible for immigration.

Under the MoU, the Vietnamese Government and Saskatchewan provincial authorities will facilitate Vietnamese workers working and immigrating into the province.

Saskatchewan’s Ministry of AEEL will provide the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) with information on local enterprises’ employment demands. Meanwhile, MoLISA will provide a list of labour export businesses to the Ministry of AEEL.

Honorary consuls appointed

SEOUL — Two businessmen of South Korea have been appointed as honourable consuls of Viet Nam to their country.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the country Pham Tien Van, on behalf of the Vietnamese Government, handed over consular credentials to Park Soo Kwan, honourable consul to Pusan city and Kyongnam Province; and Koo Cha-Yol, honourable consul to Incheon city and Kyonggi Province.

He expressed his belief in the newly accredited consuls’ great contributions to strengthening friendship and co-operation between the two countries.

Park Soo Kwan and Koo Cha-Yol expressed their thanks for the Vietnamese Government and foreign ministry’s trust, and said they would spare no efforts to bolster the two countries’ friendship.

Myanmar investment discussed

HA NOI — A conference seeking solutions to boost Viet Nam’s investments in Myanmar as well as bilateral trade co-operation was held in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, on Friday, according to the New Light of Myanmar newspaper.

The newspaper’s Saturday edition said that during the conference, attended by U Soe Tha and Thurein Zaw, Minister and Deputy Minister of the Myanmar’s Economic Development and State Planning Department, and Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Doan Xuan Hung, the two sides discussed bilateral economic co-operation prospects.

On Friday, Myanmar Prime Minister Thein Sein received Deputy Foreign Minister Hung and Deputy Defence Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh. — VNS
