New action film to hit cinemas
HA NOI — Criminal gangs try to take control of VINASAT-1, Viet Nam’s first and only communications satellite, in Bay Rong (Clash), an action movie starring overseas Vietnamese star Johnny Tri Nguyen and actress-singer Ngo Thanh Van which will hit theatres next Friday.
Directed by Le Thanh Son, the film is the second film produced by the Chanh Phuong Co with these two stars and cost about US$800,000 to produce, according to Nguyen, who was also movie’s action director.
In the film, Nguyen plays Quan, an ex-convict who joins a gang put together by Trinh (Van) to steal a hard drive from French mobsters. The hard drive is used to control the satellite. Another member of the gang, however, steals the drive and tries to sell it to another gang.
Quan and Trinh try to recapture it first, falling in love along the way.
Nguyen and Van said they worked very hard on Bay Rong, which was shot within a six-week period.
In preparation for the martial arts sequences, Van took classes in Los Angeles and was in training daily. She said she was confident of doing justice to her role, including the romantic scenes.
Her character, she said, is a girl who grew up in a criminal environment but is transformed by love.
"I’m trying to feel the love inside this character," said Van. "I want to act my best. The looks of temptation, the trembling hands, the breathing – it all has to be real."
Bay Rong includes lengthy action sequences shot in the streets and luxury hotels of HCM City and would be the first Vietnamese movie to feature car chases using BMW automobiles, noted Nguyen.
"Co-producer Enervon and sponsor BMW are excited with our project," he said.
"The audience will see breathtaking chases with the best products." — VNS
