Singing contest finds new talents

TUY HOA — The final night of Sao Mai (Morning Star) Singing Contest on Sunday in the southern city of Tuy Hoa enthralled the audience as promising new talents were named and honoured.

Nine candidates had one week to prepare for their final performance. In each category of folk, chamber and light music, they had to perform one song specified by the jury board and one chosen themselves.

With a deep speaking but light and clear singing voice, Bui Le Man from the central province of Ha Tinh won the top prize for her folk style. She also received the special prize for the Most Popular Contestant, voted for by the audience.

Viet Ha and Ngoc Ky shared the second prize in the folk music category

Ha Hoai Thu from the northern province of Quang Ninh expressed her talent brilliantly and won the jury’s hearts in the first round in which she received high scores. She was awarded the first prize in the light music category.

This was the first time Thu had attended a large-scale contest like Sao Mai but the young girl showed her determination. She will continue perfecting her singing skills by attending Sao Mai Diem Hen (Morning Star - Rendezvous) Contest next year, she said.

The second prizes for light music went to My Nhu and Viet Quang.

With a powerful voice and flawless technique, Le Xuan Hao from the northern province of Thai Binh excelled in the category of chamber music and took the top prize. Hong Nhung and Trung Nhat were awarded the second prizes.

This year, young contestants showed their determination, character and creativity through the way they expressed and selected their songs. These attributes made a good impression, proving the understandable attraction of this contest. — VNS
